My brothers and sisters,
I'm sure for us all it's been an exciting and dramatic week with the various current events surrounding the country and the world. As believers, however, we know that our true identity is not with our political preferences, or even with our country.
It's very easy to get caught up in the drama of an election, pinning your hopes on one candidate or the other. Finding fear or elation at the results. No doubt all of us who gather for worship this Sunday have some affiliation or another. We must cast those affiliations aside, however, and gather as sheep of Christ's flock. Citizens of the true kingdom and Servants to do his work of love, compassion, and truth. The beauty of the Gospel is that it does not speak to any particular worldview, perspective, or ideology. The Gospel speaks to the glory of God and his kingdom, and nothing else.
So, as one of your worship leaders, I challenge you this week to spend less time ruminating and rejoicing on the results of an election and to spend more time digging deeper into the beautiful masterwork of God that is the Gospel. As you do that, take some time to prepare yourself for this Sunday's gathering! We'll be singing the following songs this week (which can be found on our spotify playlist)
House of God Forever
The Water and The Blood
I Will Glory in My Redeemer
The Revelation of Jesus Christ
Likewise, the liturgies this week will be from Psalm 73 and the Sermon text is 1 Corinthians 16:1-11. Spend some time reading through those as well!
